EURUSD, backtest January 2016 → October 2026, after costs.

How Mercury trades EURUSD

Mercury runs all five strategies on EURUSD: breakouts through H4 fair value gaps, daily and H4 swing levels, yesterday’s value area and untested daily POCs. Each trade needs a decisive close through the level and a confirming candle, enters between 12:00 and 16:00 UTC, carries a fixed stop and a 3R or 4R target, and is closed after eight hours at the latest. Mercury holds at most two EURUSD positions at a time.

When Mercury trades EURUSD

Between 12:00 and 16:00 UTC, London and New York are both open, the busiest part of the day for EURUSD. US data releases at 12:30 or 13:30 UTC often decide whether a daily swing level or an H4 gap gives way.

What moves Euro / Dollar

  • • The interest-rate gap between the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve.
  • • US and euro-area inflation and growth data.
  • • General demand for the US dollar.

Brokers name this market differently: EURUSD, EUR.USD, or EURUSD with a suffix such as EURUSD.pro, EURUSD.ecn or EURUSDm. The Mercury Bridge EA recognises these names automatically.

Sizing and costs on EURUSD

EURUSD has the tightest spreads of the six markets, but commissions still matter because its moves are small: Mercury skips any trade whose costs would exceed 20 % of its stop. A raw-spread account with low commission keeps more trades in play.

In the backtest

From January 2016 to October 2026, after costs: 136 trades, 35% winners, an average winner of 2.21R and a deepest drawdown of 11R. Most trades lost; the result came from winners being larger than losers. Simulated, not live.

EURUSD questions

Why is EURUSD the weakest market in the backtest?
Its moves through levels are smaller relative to costs. It stayed positive after costs over the whole period, but with a lower profit factor than the other markets.
Does Mercury trade EURUSD during the Asian session?
No. New trades open only between 12:00 and 16:00 UTC on every market.

Hypothetical results from a backtest — simulated trades on historical prices with raw-spread costs (0.1 pip spread and $3.50 commission per side; index futures equivalent), not actual trading. The rules were built on 2012–2019 prices and checked on later years, but the results shown include the years they were built on, so live results are likely to be lower; your broker’s spreads, slippage and execution can differ. Past or simulated performance does not guarantee future results. Trading leveraged products can lose more than you expect.
